NEW SCHEDULE FOR SACRAMENT OF PENANCE Wednesday at 7:00pm During Lent the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm. This change, both in parish schedule and in practice, is a pastoral effort to foster a Lenten spirit of conversion by deepening our prayerful participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Wednesday, Feb 24, Mar 3, 10, 17 & 24th at 7:00pm and Wednesday, Feb 24th & Mar 10th at 9:00am
This is a change from Saturday afternoon to Wednesday evening, which will hopefully expand an appreciation of the power of this Sacrament. It will change from the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation of Individual Penitents to the format of Reconciliation for Several Penitents, a Penance Service format like our annual Advent and Lenten Penance Service. The Sacrament will be celebrated in the format of a communal liturgy with all the common parts of the Sacrament celebrated together and the admission of sin and absolution celebrated individually. Penitents assemble for the starting time of the service and take part in the service as the whole Sacrament.

YEAR of the PRIEST
Prayer for Priests
Ever-living God and Father of us all, you give to your Church the Priesthood of your Son, Jesus, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, you provide holy priests for a holy people.
We pray for all our priests, who announce the Word of God and celebrate the Sacraments, for those who are young and those who are old, for those who serve in difficult and trying circumstances, for those who are faithful and those who are faltering, and for those who have died.
We entrust all our priests to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary that they may persevere with fidelity to you and to your Church. With Saint John Vianney, patron of priests, we pray that our priests may never fail to lead us to you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Year of the Priest: St. Cyril of Jerusalem
On Thursday March 18th, we'll celebrate the feast of St. Cyril who fought hard for the church against heresy (contradict truth). He was born around 315 and was brought up in Jerusalem. He was ordained a deacon and then a priest and was put in charge of instructing the catechumens (those seeking to become Catholic). His teachings were written down and passed down through the centuries. When his bishop Maximus died, St. Cyril was consecrated bishop of Jerusalem. He found himself in the middle of the Arian heresy (that Christ was two people instead of one divine person with two natures). He later did attend the council at Constantinople where the Nicene Creed and Cyril triumphed over Arianism.
Cyril sold some of the churches' goods when a famine hit Jerusalem. Cyril had a falling out with Acacius, bishop of Caesarea, who had authority over Palestine. Acacius accused him of selling church goods to raise money and had Cyril banished. Cyril was banished for eleven years. When he died in Jerusalem around the age of seventy, Cyril had eight years of peace. We are grateful to our Magisterium (our bishops in union with the Pope)who defend our faith and protect it from error.
In the year of the priest, we continue to thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit who assists our teachers and preachers in their pastoral role. |

TURN YOUR VOLUME UP TO HEAR THE MUSIC!!!!!
Come, come, come and discover: He loves you like no other Come, now, come and discover Jesus, Jesus
He became our brother Son of Mary our mother Come, now, come and discover Jesus! Welcome to His house In His Sacraments He abides with us. In His Holy Word Jesus speaks to every one of us. Come...Jesus turned to speak to the men who had closely followed him. "What is it you seek? What is it you want from me?"
"Rabbi, where are you staying? We would gladly learn all that you would teach." Jesus said, "Follow me! Come and you will see!" Come...
He is Our Savior and Eternal Friend So come and take His hand and walk with Him again. Come...

FAST AND ABSTINENCE AND OTHER ACTS OF PENANCE FOR LENT The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are 14 years of age or older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, on all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons 18 years of age and older, up to and including their 59th birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. All faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recommended. All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl, which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Archdiocese as well as throughout our nation and our world.

| EUCHARISTIC ADORATION |
God intends for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to be simple. Don't worry if you find you have no thoughts while you are before Him. Don't worry if you don't feel you've developed a spirit of devotion. What God cares about is that you are here with Him. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He loves us incredibly. St. John Vianney once compared adoration to spiritual sunbathing. You are taking in the warmth of grace and love radiating from the Most Holy Eucharist.
We have adoration on Mondays from 8am-10pm and on Fridays from 8 am- 6pm in the daily Mass chapel. We are currently looking for an adorer for Monday nights from 6-7pm. For additional information, contact Amy Newman at (610) 459-2502. |

| PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY |
Prayer Shawl Ministry Prayer Shawl Ministry meetings are every other Monday at the Parish Life Center from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at the Concord Mall, Route 202, Wilmington, DE. For further information, please contact Joan Broge at 610-358-2086 or Grace Houseman at 610-358-0660.
Monsignor Parlante has blessed all these handmade items. Any parishioner can request a shawl, robe, or baby blanket. These items are ideal for celebrating a wedding or a new baby, and can comfort those who are ill, have lost a loved one, have been through trying time. |
|
|
The Prayer Shawl ministry continues its mission of making shawls and lap robes for anyone in need of prayers, comfort, and healing. These are available for family and friends of the St. Cornelius Parish at no cost.
We will make arrangements for pick-up or delivery of your request. Request forms are available at the Parish Life Center should you wish to fill one out.
There is an interest to have an evening meeting for knitters and crocheters, date and time to be determined. If you are interested in joining an evening meeting group, please contact Jackie Graff (1-302) 654-7202 or Diann Leschinsky (610- 358-0309). We are in need of materials for making Prayer Shawl pins. If you have any old costume jewelry or an old button collection that you are willing to part with, please contact Joan Broge (610-358-2086). Helen and Jim Jones are volunteering their time to make the shawl pins. If bought retail, these pins sell from $20 upwards to $85. |
|
| ARE YOU REGISTERED? |
It is a tremendous undertaking to keep up to date records of our parish membership. There is a constant ebb and flow of people moving in and moving out of the parish. If you do not receive monthly mail from the parish, it is a good indication that we do not have you in our registered rolls. One important reason for knowing the number of families, is that the diocese assigns it's priest personnel according to registered numbers. If you are not registered, please come to the Parish Life Center after Mass on Sunday from 8:30am to 12:30pm or Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm.
